Leandro Erlich
Exhibition | Le Grand Palais, Paris
June 2026

Leandro Erlich is an Argentinian conceptual artist known for large scale art installations in public spaces. I first came across his work when visiting Museum Voorlinden in the Netherlands where his Swimming Pool was exhibited.

That is not itself exhibited here, although a scale model of the concept is:

There is plenty else to see though in this retrospective, demonstrating his use of mirrors, illusions, altered perspectives and scaling. I have included a few of my favourite moments from this exhibition below.
Port of Reflections
Boats appear to be floating, using mirrors, sound effects and gentle movement.

The Cloud
Using white ceramic ink on a series of glass plates, it really looks as if actual clouds are captured inside the cases.

The View
We are invited to peer through a Venetian blind and observe what is going on at various apartments at an adjacent building. This is achieved through videos playing different scenes at each window

Elevators
A set of lifts incorporating mirrors and missing walls that look real but which confuse the senses.
The Building (Hausmann)
Using a giant angled mirror, we are invited to create the illusion that we are hanging off a vertical building (see image at the top of this page), the stuff of nightmares!
