About me

My interest in photography started rather late in life, after an argument with a friend who was unhappy with a photo I took of them using an iPhone in Sintra, Portugal.

Struggling with a combination of bright sunlight, a huge queue of people waiting impatiently to take a similar shot of their friends at the same spot, my height – which meant I had to crouch down in an uncomfortable position – and unfamiliarity with the phone, he ended up with a poorly composed shot.

Irritated by my failure, I decided to blame my tools and set about looking for a camera with a viewfinder and a “fully articulating screen”. I settled on a second hand Canon G1X Mark iii and everything mushroomed from there. It was not long until I had embraced the world of full frame and associated lenses, acquired a new laptop, bought terabytes of disks and cloud storage, camera bags galore – you know the way it goes…

If you are interested, I am currently using a Canon R6 mark iii.

I continue my photography journey pretty much daily, and enjoy the exercise, both physically and in the more careful observation of the world that it requires.

Several established photographers have helped and encouraged me along my journey, including, but not limited to:

In addition to this website, I post many other photos on other sites, such as:

I hope you enjoy my photos and stories!
