Nizwa: The Fish Market and Jebel Shams
After our early morning at the camel auction, we returned to Nizwa briefly for breakfast and to visit the local fish market. As you can imagine, this was a smelly and messy affair so I chose not to stay for too long.

Outside the trading area, several bored children were hanging around presumably waiting for their parents, and were kind enough to let me take their photo.

And then back on the road to Jebel Shams which is the highest mountain in Oman. Its name literally means “Mountain of Sun” and it naturally receives the first light of sunrise each day. We were heading there for sunset however.
Goats are residents in the Jebel Shams area, and spinning yarn is a tradition craft.

We stationed ourselves near a hotel that was being built, and while everyone else was focusing on the sunset, my childhood passion kicked in yet again and I wandered off to explore the half built structures, closely observed by a few workmen remaining on the site gathering by a fire to keep themselves warm.

The photo below was taken in what was presumably being built as a luxury hotel suite. The view was so stunning, I sat here for a long time just gazing at it as the light kept changing. I am only sorry that my photo does not truly convey its beauty.
If I ever return to Oman, I am going to save up to stay in this very room.

I would love to have had some beautiful photos of the sunset at this amazing location, but my obsession with the building site precluded it unfortunately. So, yes, I really will have to return. There, I have talked myself into it…
